The house

The house is surrounded by lush wild plants that keep it private and keep the place's magic.

Electricity is fully solar, and all our water goes to the garden, so everything here is ecological.

On cold evenings, light the stove: an antique cast-iron one that takes a while to warm up, and then warms the whole house. Firewood is waiting for you.

There is a front porch and a back porch, and our deck is the place for yoga.

Our story

Maayan was born in Klil and has spent most of his life here. In 2015, after a long trip through Australia, he decided to build a house in the village he grew up in. He built it with his own hands, with help from good friends, from recycled materials.

Gal and Maayan met just as the building began. They lived in Tel Aviv and Los Angeles, and from afar they shaped the idea of giving the house a makeover. It was not easy, in Klil's conditions and through a summer without air conditioning, but the passion carried them. Most of the house is made of recycled, ecological materials, and most of it was built by their own hands.

They wanted a house that is indulgent and simple at once, as close to nature as possible, and full of light: a place where whoever comes feels calm and at ease.

Gal grew up in Spain until she was nine. She is a film and television actress and runs an online Spanish school. Maayan is a private chef, a passion he got from his mother. His parents were pioneers in Klil, in settling it and in its tourism: for 16 years they ran the restaurant "Smadar in Klil" and the black-goat dairy "Klil BaGalil", and hosted guests from all over the country and the world in the wooden cabins on the land.

Today Maayan cooks in homes across the country and hosts food evenings at Casa Sol that are open to all, as well as private events where the house is closed for family and friends.

Power: Solar. No hair dryers, kettles or other appliances, only phone and laptop chargers.
Shoes: Stay at the door, so bring slippers.
Fire: The plants around the house burn easily: no campfires, no barbecues, and never leave candles, the stove or children unattended.
What to bring: Warm clothes, as Klil is cold at night; an eye mask if morning light bothers you; a mat if you do yoga.

Klil and around

Klil has plenty of walking trails and stunning sunsets. One trail worth taking runs down the wadi to Yehiam Fortress. Or just sit and do nothing at all.

In Klil: The organic shop (organic vegetables, pasta, rice and vegan cheeses), a small Friday-morning market across from it, and the Acho Café food truck.
Breakfast: La Couronne bakery in Evron, Good Bakery in Tarshiha, Tosha Bakery across from Achziv beach, Tene bread, and Alto cheeses at Kibbutz Shomrat.
Lunch: Sami's hummus in Beit HaEmek, very close to the house.
Dinner: Bianella in Julis (Italian with a Druze twist; book ahead), Kamun pub in Tarshiha, and Colombo in Lohamei HaGeta'ot.
A special night out: Adelina in Kabri and Chef Michael's restaurant.
